Turning Kids' Ideas Into Magical Images With Safe, Simple AI-Powered Creativity
DrawingBook.io is an AI image generation tool designed specifically for parent and children. With the rapid rise of generative AI tools like DALL·E and Midjourney, there was a noticeable gap in child-friendly, safe, and accessible platforms that encourage creativity through technology. DrawingBook.io bridges that gap by offering a playful, secure, and easy-to-use interface where kids can describe what they want to see and watch it come to life through AI-generated artwork. The platform promotes storytelling, imagination, and digital confidence in a safe environment tailored for young users.

The primary goal of DrawingBook.io was to create a safe, empowering space where children could engage with artificial intelligence without exposure to the complexities, risks, or inappropriate content that often accompanies adult-focused AI tools. All this while keeping the physical activity of colouring. We wanted to demystify AI for kids and transform it into something joyful, intuitive, and imaginative. The platform needed to be visually engaging, easy to navigate, and able to handle unpredictable or whimsical input while maintaining high safety standards. We also aimed to foster creative thinking by allowing kids to not only generate illustrations but also save, print, and share their creations with family and friends.

I built DrawingBook.io with a custom AI prompt engine tailored to the language patterns of children. The interface was designed with oversized buttons, playful typography, and a limited but powerful set of features to reduce overwhelm while encouraging exploration. Prompt guidance was introduced in the form of example suggestions like “A cat flying a rocket” or “A dinosaur baking a cake,” which sparked creativity while keeping content age-appropriate. A robust content moderation layer filtered unsafe inputs, and image generation was optimized to deliver colorful, storybook-like visuals. The final product included features like image downloads, print-friendly versions, and a personal gallery space to view past creations.
